The most rewarding experience I have had is sitting in a presentation with the senior leadership team of one of our clients and having the CEO ask me what I would recommend, even though there were more senior consultants from ECG in the room. Having this level of responsibility as a younger consultant and getting the firsthand experience of being their trusted adviser was such as great feeling.
John’s approach to consulting is grounded in a strong analytical focus: He strikes a balance between offering informed findings and providing pragmatic answers that recognize the uniqueness of each client’s situation. John has extensive experience completing strategic and operational engagements for multiple health systems and medical groups, with a particular focus on multispecialty groups and cardiovascular service lines.
Recently, he developed a comprehensive service line governance plan for a cardiovascular institute that resulted in the close alignment of the health system and over 60 community cardiologists, which supported first-year institutional growth of more than 10%. John notably led a 200-provider independent multispecialty group through a strategic planning effort that fostered an integrated culture, created profitable growth and expansion, and optimized operations to maximize shareholder value. John has also worked with medical group leadership of a more-than-4,000-provider health system to redesign governance and organizational structures and monitoring processes. Further, in an effort to help a leading health plan’s system partner develop an ambulatory strategy to better serve rural areas of Hawaii, John developed a plan for increased ambulatory surgery presence, rotating subspecialists, and support to existing practices. Prior to ECG, John worked at Milliman, helping health insurance organizations improve operational and financial performance through program assessments and organizational benchmarking.
