Craig is an economist and econometrician with over 36 years of experience in creating data-driven solutions to healthcare challenges. Much of his career has focused on helping clients minimize regulatory risk, reduce spending through cost-based case rates, and identify and understand market opportunities. Hospitals, physician groups, health systems, device manufacturers, and private equity firms look to Craig to provide unique solutions to complex problems and value his creative approach to tackling tough questions. Craig conducts an annual HMO membership survey and a California medical group survey, and he has authored the California Health Care Foundation’s Physician’s California Health Care Almanac series.
Before joining ECG, Craig was a cofounder of MD Ranger. There, he designed the data architecture for web-based service, advised on data sources and uses, and performed an annual analysis of the drivers of physician services valuation variation. Concurrently, Craig was co-owner and principal at Cattaneo & Stroud, where he specialized in healthcare market demand analysis and forecasting, statistical analysis, and analytical and reporting software development. In a prior role as a senior economist at Kaiser Permanente Northern California, Craig introduced statistical methods of demand analysis to membership forecasting and policy evaluation and monitored market conditions monthly. Building on successes in modeling member dynamics in Northern California, he advised other Kaiser regions on similar approaches.
