Physician Integration: Keeping the Marriage Alive After the Honeymoon is Over
Tuesday, July 31, 2012 | 10:00 am - 11:30 am PT

Hospital acquisitions of physician practices are often likened to a marriage and for good reason. As in marriage, whenever hospitals acquire physician practices, both parties are in for some major changes - some anticipated, others not - that are sure to test the strength of the relationship. The root causes of most conflicts can usually be traced back to a lack of preparedness for the changes that the relationship will bring. This Webinar will explore this theme and provide practical advice on what hospitals and physicians must do in order to prevent the avoidable sources of conflict and mitigate the unavoidable issues.
Specific learning objectives:
- Understand the need to develop an organizational strategy that redefines the enterprise as an integrated health system rather than a hospital-centric organization that just happens to employ physicians.
- Identify the key operational, governance, and relationship issues which must be discussed openly and understood in advance of preparing legal documents.
- Assess your organization’s readiness to be a good partner in the hospital-physician marriage.
- Anticipate the range of issues that can arise from having a mix of employed and independent physicians on your medical staff.
