ECG Management Consultants, Inc. Announces the Commencement of the 2008 National Pediatric Subspecialty Physician Compensation, Production, and Benefits Survey

Seattle, WA February 13, 2008 – ECG Management Consultants, Inc., one of the nation’s premier healthcare management consulting firms, today announced the commencement of the 2008 National Pediatric Subspecialty Physician Compensation, Production, and Benefits Survey.

ECG has invited children’s hospitals and pediatric organizations from around the nation to participate in this important study.  The survey has been designed to balance the complexities of the tripartite mission of academic medical centers with nonacademic settings that employ pediatric subspecialists.  The survey will contain data for pediatric and surgical subspecialty physicians and faculty practicing in freestanding children’s hospitals, academic medical centers, children’s hospitals within hospitals, and community-based organizations and physician groups.

The 2008 study will provide an in-depth analysis of the pediatric subspecialty market, including:

n                    Detailed analysis of pediatric trends, issues, and opportunities by ECG’s experts.

n                    Summary graphs, charts, and detailed appendices of relevant compensation and production statistics by subspecialty, including data cuts by tenure, faculty rank, organizational structure, and region.

n                    Physician benefits and recruiting information, including starting salary offers by specialty, as well as an analysis of hospital funding and support by organization type.

“Because of the number of children’s organizations that will be participating in this study, it will contain benchmarks for pediatric and surgical subspecialties that are simply not available in the standard, adult specialty-focused industry surveys,” stated Ms. Maria C. Hayduk, Senior Manager and head of ECG’s compensation survey practice.

“The pediatric subspecialty arena has become increasingly competitive,” said Mr. Kenneth A. Roorda, Senior Manager, head of ECG’s children’s hospital practice.  “Many children’s organizations are experiencing physician shortages and do not have the compensation benchmarks that they need to successfully recruit and retain pediatric subspecialists.”

ECG Survey Methodology

The 2008 National Pediatric Subspecialty Physician Compensation, Production, and Benefits Survey methodology uses clear, uniformly applied definitions and a structured data validation process to transform participant responses into useful benchmarks and information.  To ensure data accuracy, full-time equivalent (FTE) components are being collected on a per physician basis.  In addition to the FTE, percentage of effort, and compensation and production data being gathered, work and total RVUs will be calculated from CPT-level data.

Electronic survey instruments are being distributed this month with a survey submission deadline of April 4, 2008.  Survey results will be available by July; however, only those organizations actively participating will have access to this report.
