Musculoskeletal

Hospitals face several challenges and opportunities in Musculoskeletal services:

  • How to keep up with the increasing demand for specialized orthopedic services.
  • How to control the costs of implants and other surgical supplies.
  • How to avoid losing the highly profitable outpatient surgical business.
  • How to meet the demands of orthopedic surgeons eager to expand their passive income and critical of the performance of hospital operating rooms.
  • How to develop an effective physician platform for growth.

ECG assists hospitals across the country in addressing these challenges and positioning orthopedic service lines to meet the needs of the community.

ECG is currently assisting in the development of a musculoskeletal institute with strong physician support at a large Maryland medical center. The musculoskeletal institute will bring together employed and private practice orthopedic surgeons, as well as other specialties/services including neurosurgery, rheumatology, physiatry, radiology, and physical therapy.

Facilitating the development of a strategic implementation plan. Expand Minimize

ECG assisted a two-hospital system in the South in developing an orthopedic services strategic implementation plan. The system recently recruited several orthopedic surgeons into the market and, as a result, had additional orthopedic specialty capabilities available. ECG worked with the orthopedic surgeons, health system administration, and an orthopedic steering committee to develop detailed action plans to address the implementation of a previously developed orthopedic services strategic plan and to resolve additional issues that faced the system in regard to orthopedic services.

Assisting in the development of a strategic business plan. Expand Minimize

ECG facilitated the planning process and development of strategic and business plans for the orthopedic service line and outpatient facilities of a four-hospital Midwest organization. ECG expedited discussions between the hospital and physicians to define the appropriate service line model, assess the market viability and financial feasibility of the options, define the organizational structures (i.e., governance and management) to oversee the enterprise, and determine the location of services across several campus locations.
