ECG's fourth annual National Pediatric Subspecialty Physician Compensation, Production, and Benefits Survey will commence February 2010. For over 35 years, ECG has worked with children’s hospitals on contractual business issues, including compensation planning in recognition of the relative value unit (RVU) changes by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

In the healthcare industry, benchmarks for pediatric subspecialties are typically not available or are based on discounting adult standards. Today’s challenging recruiting environment is making retention and reliable benchmark data all the more critical.

The pediatric survey has been designed to balance the complexities of the tripartite mission of academic medical centers with nonacademic settings that employ pediatric subspecialists. Thus, physicians in a variety of settings are being invited to participate in this study. In 2009, 28 children’s organizations participated, representing 2,000 physicians in 41 pediatric subspecialties.

ECG’s survey report provides in-depth analysis of market trends within pediatric subspecialties including the following:

  • Detailed analysis of pediatric trends, issues, and opportunities by ECG’s experts, including analysis of important compensation, production, benefits and recruiting statistics (e.g., compensation per work RVU).
  • Summary graphs, charts, and detailed appendices of relevant compensation and production statistics for more than 36 pediatric specialties.
  • A customized survey addendum that enables individual sponsors to compare their performance for each metric, by specialty, to that of the remaining participants. (All data is made blind to ensure confidentiality. Only ECG will have access to the confidential source information.)
  • Detailed compensation and production metrics by specialty and rank/title, including clinical compensation, gross professional charges, net professional collections, and work and total RVUs.
  • Benefits information, including benefits expense by specialty, benefits as a percentage of compensation, composition of benefits plan, continuing medical education (CME) days and dollars, and paid time off (PTO).
  • Additional metrics include recruiting efforts by specialty, malpractice premiums by specialty, work standards, and other operating statistics.
