With the formation of integrated clinical enterprises, many AMCs have revised their traditional funds flow to reflect changes in financial and organizational relationships. Historical funding provided to the SOM in recognition of the academic mission (e.g., dean’s tax) has now shifted to mission support from the overall clinical enterprise. Progressive AMCs have used this opportunity to develop payment models that incentivize collaboration and promote the success of the academic/clinical partnership. This session will examine case studies from the development of mission support arrangements at the University of Kansas Medical Center and the University of Nebraska Medical Center. The presentation will also discuss industry trends, SOM distribution approaches, and alignment of payments with teaching hospital performance.
