Developing an IT Services Organization for EHR/EMR Deployment

Thursday, May 22, 2008

As the pace of physician adoption of EMRs increases, many health systems, and even provider organizations, are considering creating services organizations to host and locally support these systems. While the benefits of EMR hosting may be obvious to the host and recipient (greater alignment, improved quality of care, and reductions in cost), numerous issues are impeding many organizations from being successful. In this Webinar, we will discuss the major issues typically encountered in crafting a hosted solution for EHRs, and we will provide an example of an organization that is having some early success. Areas to be discussed include:

  • Creating an effective governance structure and building consensus.
  • Selecting appropriate implementation and support models.
  • Selecting the appropriate system and level of community integration.
  • Understanding costs and ensuring appropriate financing.
  • Creating effective contracts with vendors and participants.

We address each of these issues to assist organizations in understanding the basic start-up requirements of EHR deployment as well as more mature organizational models that support the services organization in becoming sustainable.
