Building Your Orthopedic Program Through Improved Physician Alignment
Wednesday, July 30, 2008
Hospitals are keeping a watchful eye on the baby boomer generation
to ensure that they will be able to meet its healthcare needs.
The 78 million Americans born from 1946 to 1964 will require
a growing number of health services as they age. But unlike
previous generations, the baby boomers are wearing through
bones and joints more quickly and demanding that they be fixed
and replaced in order to continue active lifestyles.
Medical device companies are responding with continual advances
in implants, allowing surgeons to repair and replace what
their patients are damaging. Surgeons are responding by improving
procedures and thus allowing more cases to be addressed on
an outpatient basis. Medicare is even responding with increases
in reimbursement for orthopedic services as a result of changes
in inpatient and outpatient reimbursement methodologies.
How should hospitals respond?
During this session of the ECG Trends Webinar Series, we
addressed why orthopedics should be a priority at your hospital
and what options you have to build your orthopedic program.
The session highlighted:
Capturing the growing orthopedic services market.
Benefiting from improving economic factors for orthopedics.
Improving the quality and effectiveness of your orthopedic
program.
Determining the appropriate orthopedic program design
for a local market.
Aligning incentives with orthopedic surgeons.
