- Providing project management for a multispecialty medical group's managed care information system implementation.
We assisted a major multispecialty
physician organization with managing the implementation of a managed care
information system. Our project management work involved: (1) establishing
a formal project work plan and timeline to monitor project activities and progress;
(2) developing and managing an issues log that was used by all project staff, vendor
staff, and the organization’s management to focus on resolving project issues; and
(3) providing overall management of the system implementation process.
- Managing practice management system selection and implementation activities for a multi-institutional community information network.
We assisted a community information network,
consisting of a statewide partnership of public health and community health centers,
in managing the selection and implementation of a common practice management system
for its member healthcare organizations. Our efforts included: (1) evaluating
market-standard vendor product functionality relative to the unique requirements for
the organization’s members; (2) developing a framework for system selection, including
goals and objectives; (3) soliciting formal proposals through a comprehensive Request
for Information and demonstration process; (4) recommending a preferred system; and
(5) planning and assisting the organization with managing the implementation process.
- Providing project management for a large physician network's acquisition of an electronic medical record (EMR) and practice management system.
We assisted an integrated delivery system
with managing the acquisition and installation of a practice management and
EMR system for its multisite, multispecialty physician
group consisting of more than 150 physicians. Our work involved: (1) coordinating
multiple planning and process redesign work groups to define both system requirements
and areas for operational change and improvement; (2) communicating with and managing
the expectations of multiple stakeholders including medical center management, clinic
management, physicians, and staff; (3) developing and managing an issues log that was
used by all project staff, vendor staff, and the organization’s internal project manager
to focus on resolving project issues; (4) assisting the organization’s project manager
with creating project plans and keeping tasks on time and within budget during the
system rollout; and (5) assisting with training physician and clinical support staff
in using the EMR.
- Managing the design and development of a resident-tracking system for a major school of medicine.
We assisted a major medical school with managing the
design and development of a custom system to track medical resident time and expenses.
Our project activities included: (1) defining system requirements; (2) coordinating the
selection of software development resources; (3) providing quality assurance oversight
of system development activities; (4) designing and coordinating system functionality
testing; (5) planning and managing system implementation activities; and (6) designing
and implementing a staff training program for use of the software.
- Managing the implementation of a professional fee billing service and associated billing system for a major medical center.
We assisted a major medical center with managing
the implementation of a professional fee billing service and associated billing system.
Our work consisted of: (1) assisting in facilities planning and identification;
(2) overseeing the implementation of a professional fee billing system; (3) assisting
in the design and development of policies and procedures to ensure timely charge entry,
accounts receivable follow-up, and collections; (4) overseeing the implementation of an
interface to the medical center’s admission/discharge/transfer and registration system
to capture patient demographics, insurance, and guarantor information; and (5) providing
support for both the system and related processes during the go-live period.
- Assisting a large metropolitan academic medical center with transitioning multiple faculty groups to a common information system.
We assisted a large metropolitan academic medical center to transition its 19 Faculty Practice Groups
to a common information system and more efficient billing model. Our role in this
project included designing the billing model, leading the contract negotiation effort
with the practice management system vendor, developing the implementation plan, and
managing the implementation effort.
