We frequently assist our clients in navigating the variability
between different vendors’ product structures and interface formats
to design workable models for data exchange that support efficient operations.
ECG Management Consultants, Inc.’s assistance in developing effective interfaces includes:
Reviewing operational considerations and interface specifications to ensure that interface requirements are met.
Identifying areas for custom-programming or operational modifications.
Developing data cross-map documentation to be used as a guide for programming.
Overseeing the interface testing process and issue resolution.
We assisted the professional fee billing office
for a large academic medical center in developing a sophisticated patient registration
interface from the hospital’s admission/discharge/ transfer system (McKesson Pathways).
The interface included sophisticated logic and coding to translate and cross-map data from
the hospital environment to the professional fee billing system (Epic Resolute).
Our role in this process included: (1) reviewing the system structures, use, and HL7
specifications for the sending and receiving systems to develop an appropriate data
cross-map; (2) providing oversight for the interface development process; and (3) developing
a comprehensive interface test plan and overseeing testing activities. As a result of
this project, the client was able to interface data successfully, requiring only minimal
intervention and ongoing data monitoring.
We assisted the professional fee billing office
for a large academic medical center in developing an interface to gather patient demographic,
insurance, and guarantor information from the hospital Cerner admission/discharge/transfer (ADT) and registration
system (Patient Account Manager, or PAM). Our role in the project encompassed: (1) upgrading
the interface from HL7 2.2 to HL7 2.3; (2) developing a data cross-map between the sending
and receiving systems; (3) monitoring the interface development; and (4) providing an
appropriate test plan and assisting in issue resolution. As a result of this assignment,
the practice management system (Epic Resolute) is able to receive information from the
hospital ADT system (Cerner Access Management).
