Alexandra Olesen

Manager

Alex specializes in provider compensation valuation, design, and administration. Having served as a compensation leader within one of the nation's largest nonprofit health systems for over 10 years and having practiced as a health law attorney, Alex brings a unique perspective, practical insight, and strategic guidance to healthcare organizations facing complex provider compensation–related challenges. Alex also supports rural hospitals and Critical Access Hospitals and understands the unique challenges these organizations face.

Before joining ECG, Alex practiced as an attorney at Hall Render, where she focused on provider financial arrangements, contracting, and alignment strategies. She helped clients navigate and ensure compliance with complex regulatory issues such as Stark law and the Anti-Kickback Statute. Alex also assisted clients in understanding and mitigating potential risks related to provider compensation arrangements and in developing voluntary self-disclosures under federal fraud and abuse laws. In this role, she restructured a co-leadership agreement into a value-based enterprise (VBE) arrangement, drafted physician compensation policies and procedures, and opined on the legal defensibility of VBE, multispecialty, and high-risk provider compensation arrangements. Prior to Hall Render, Alex was the director of provider compensation for hospital-based arrangements at Banner Health. In addition to her standard work, she helped transition anesthesia services provided at several Phoenix-based hospitals from professional service agreements to employed models and led the redesign of a compensation plan for certified registered nurse anesthetists at Critical Access Hospitals across multiple states.
