Tom brings in-depth analyses and a thoughtful perspective to every healthcare data and managed care contracting project. He believes that it is important to recognize the "why" for every deliverable and identify the narrative behind the numbers. Tom has a record of modeling complex reimbursement structures and enabling multistate negotiations. His managed care knowledge and technical expertise lead him to thrive in the complexity of commercial payer contracts. With healthcare analytics rapidly evolving, Tom is quick to learn from, understand, and find actionable insights within the available data to drive strategic decision-making for the organizations he supports.
Prior to beginning work at ECG, Tom held multiple roles at CommonSpirit Health, his latest being manager of payer analytics and economics, where he directed analytics for regional and national payer negotiations. These efforts supported networks of more than 50 acute care hospitals, as well as ASCs and medical groups. For these projects, he built hundreds of reimbursement models covering commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid contracts. During his senior analyst role, Tom was an early adopter of price transparency data. Given the swiftly changing data and the rise in requests for this information, Tom built out a standardized deliverable, applying the price transparency data to provide insights into market relativity for hospitals' commercial rates. With his technical capabilities as an analyst, he led the transition from Microsoft Access to SQL, resulting in faster and more reliable data pulls. This included developing SQL templates, how-to guides, and instructional videos on the basics of the tool and its application in day-to-day payer strategy work.
