The Need for Integration in AMCs

Academic medical centers (AMCs) are highly complex organizations. With their three-pronged mission to provide care, train medical students, and conduct scientific research, they face different pressures than those experienced by nonacademic healthcare entities. They are subject to some of the highest costs in healthcare, have a greater number of stakeholders, and often a complicated governance structure.

AMCs are also uniquely positioned to lead innovation in healthcare. Within the academic institution, they have the ability to conduct cutting-edge research, examine the outcomes, and apply the findings to help improve care delivery.

In this brief video, ECG Principal Leah Gassett talks about the importance of integration in enabling AMCs to offer comprehensive, state-of-the-art care.
